Suffolk, a prominent construction firm, has announced the promotion of Rod Nobrega to Chief Operating Officer (COO) of its Southwest Florida operations. This advancement marks a significant milestone in Nobrega’s career, as the lifelong resident of the Southwest Florida region is set to oversee all regional operations, influencing the company’s development and growth across various sectors.
Nobrega has accumulated nearly a decade of experience with Suffolk since joining the company in 2016 as a Project Manager. Throughout his tenure, he has demonstrated exceptional skill and leadership, managing numerous high-profile projects. His portfolio includes notable ventures such as the Great Wolf Lodge Naples, Ritz-Carlton Residences Naples, and the Naples Beach Club, which is part of a Four Seasons Resort.
In his new role as COO, Nobrega will spearhead Suffolk’s expansion efforts in key industries including healthcare, aviation, commercial, education, and hospitality. His promotion aligns with Suffolk’s strategic goals to strengthen its presence in Florida and address the growing demand for construction services in these critical sectors.
Currently, Nobrega is at the helm of the $1.1 billion Terminal E expansion at Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW), which holds the title of the largest municipal construction project in Lee County’s history. The expansion aims to add 14 new gates, with the potential for 19 in the future, along with modernization of terminal areas and enhanced TSA security infrastructure. This project is vital in preparing for an anticipated surge in air travel demand, particularly after a record-setting 11 million passengers are expected in 2024.
Under Nobrega’s leadership, the Terminal E expansion is on schedule, ensuring that preparations are in place to accommodate the upsurge in passenger traffic. His ability to manage large-scale projects has earned him recognition as a proven leader within Suffolk.
In addition to his construction accomplishments, Nobrega is dedicated to giving back to the community. He actively supports Suffolk’s community initiatives through partnerships with organizations such as Home Base Florida, Golisano Children’s Hospital, and The Immokalee Foundation. His engagement in these initiatives reflects his commitment to social responsibility and community development.
Moreover, Nobrega contributes to the education sector as an adjunct faculty member at Florida Gulf Coast University’s STOCK Development Department of Construction Management. Here, he plays a crucial role in mentoring emerging professionals in the construction industry, imparting his knowledge and experience to the next generation.
Suffolk’s leadership team acknowledges Nobrega’s pivotal role within the company and the value he brings to the organization. Alongside Nobrega, the company has also made other key leadership appointments, including Ben Wilson as General Manager of Southwest Florida and Cary Shippert as Vice President of Healthcare. These moves are expected to enhance Suffolk’s operational efficiency and growth in the competitive construction market.
As Nobrega steps into his new role, all eyes will be on how his leadership will further shape Suffolk’s strategic vision and operational success in Southwest Florida.
