Construction site for the 600 South Underpass project.
Logan City will hold a Contractor Open House to discuss the 600 South Underpass Project. Attendees can learn about construction schedules and traffic management. The meeting will take place at Logan City Hall and will offer community members a platform to ask questions and express concerns regarding the project. The underpass aims to enhance pedestrian safety and connectivity in the area, with construction expected to commence soon.
Logan City officials are set to hold a “Contractor Open House” on Tuesday, August 12, to discuss the 600 South Underpass Project. The open house will take place at Logan City Hall from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and aims to inform local business and property owners about construction schedules and traffic management issues related to the project.
This initiative is being organized on behalf of the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) along with other project partners. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and express any concerns they may have regarding the upcoming construction.
The 600 South Underpass Project involves constructing a pedestrian underpass trail culvert at 600 South, situated adjacent to the US-89 Bridge on Main Street. This ambitious endeavor is scheduled to commence as early as September 1 and is expected to last through June 2026.
Throughout the project’s duration, access to 600 South at Main Street will remain completely closed. Most construction activities are planned for daylight hours, from Monday to Friday, with some work potentially happening at night and on weekends.
Motorists in the area should prepare for delays ranging from 5 to 15 minutes due to increased congestion. UDOT recommends using 1000 West and 200 North as alternative routes during peak traffic hours.
While access to intersections between 500 South and 700 South will remain open, dedicated turn lanes may be restricted. Nighttime road closures, necessary for transporting heavy equipment and materials, will also occur between these intersections. The specific timing for these nighttime closures will be communicated through the project’s website, email updates, social media channels, and text message alerts.
The 600 South Underpass is considered crucial for improving the connectivity and safety of pedestrians, runners, and cyclists in the Logan area. With an intended budget of $8 million, the underpass aims to link existing trail systems across Main Street.
This underpass will feature a 10-foot-wide shared-use path that enhances connections to trails on both sides of Main Street. City officials are hopeful that once completed, the underpass will significantly improve the movement and safety of non-motorized users crossing Main Street.
Logan City Hall is located at 290 North, 100 West in downtown Logan, making it easily accessible for those interested in participating in the open house.
